We have always wanted to get into proposal planning for the romantic men out there wanting to put a ring on it and on Saturday 12 Sep 2015 we got that opportunity.
While in a meeting at The Boatshed Milan called Louise the functions manager to ask about popping the question inside the venue that Saturday. Milan (originally from Wellington) was calling from Auckland where he and his now fiance Michelle live. They were planning a weekend down to see his family and he was hoping to propose at the place where their romance begun.
As Louise and Milan were discussing when the venue "might" be available for him to pop in and pop the question i started to scan this very beautiful but very bare venue and immediately wanted to offer my help and expertise.
After speaking with Milan and promising him i would help plan and coordinate the ultimate proposal i knew I needed some talented superstars to help pull this one off and with only one week to plan i needed to get on to it immediately.
The first person I called was Josiah from Firetale Films, I knew he would be able to give these two the best gift of all - a gorgeous film capturing the moment and emotion for them to keep forever. Josiah was equally as excited as me to be coordinating our very first proposal - eeekkk - how exciting to able to be involved in such a special moment for this couple. Next I needed an amazing voice and guitarist... the first thought that came to mind were two buskers who had me captivated at the Sunday markets - but I had no idea how to find them in time! Would you believe that on the morning of the proposal when Milan and I met for the first time to walk through the plan they just happened to be playing on the waterfront. FATE! We were so lucky Tyler was available that night and he really was the most incredible soundtrack to set the scene. Although he didn't know the song "Michelle" by The Beatles or any Elvis songs (as Milan's initial request) he did play the most beautiful cover of Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight".
While Milan and i mapped out the perfect proposal spot around The Boatshed's rock garden and walked through the plan he told me of how he and Michelle had met at the Dalmatian Cultural Society in Auckland. They both dance Kolo, which is traditional folklore dance and initially had become good friends. At his cousins wedding at The Boatshed Michelle had come as his "plus one". It was later in the night she asked him if they had officially become "a thing" and these good friends became instant love birds. As Milan shared their story we continued along with the planning and making contingency plans for bad weather which thankfully were not needed as it turned out to be the most stunning evening.
Setting the scene in the gorgeous nook Milan had chosen I lay pillows and throws to make for a cosy wee picnic spot. Milan had given me Michelles favorite chocolates and asked if I could provide tea for them as it is one of her favorite things. A table was set complete with flowers and candles were lit in large lanterns. We had Tyler positioned on the love lock bridge busking and waiting for his queue and Josiah lurking about pretending to film the harbour skies while waiting for them.
They had arrived and Tyler started singing "Wonderful Tonight" as they wandered along the bridge together. Michelle had no idea at this stage that Tyler was playing for her and she also had no idea Milan had an engraved padlock in his pocket for them to attach to the love lock bridge together. They continued on their walk as Josiah followed them to the proposal spot to film the big moment. Milan sat Michelle down in their cosy wee nook, poured the tea and then took a blanket to her knee before he got down on his own to propose. He placed his grandmothers beautiful ring on Michelles finger just as his grandfather had done back in 1953. It was very romantic, sentimental and memorable. It was perfect. After the proposal we had Tyler congratulate them on his microphone from on the bridge and once more he played Eric Clapton's song so she knew it was all for her.
Congratulations Milan and Michelle xx
